Notes

Machining pays for its waste in the stock, not in the scrap rate: a part that finishes at 200g may start as a 900g billet, and all 900g is already inside the quoted rate. The 1% here is only the parts that fail, not the metal that becomes swarf.


A near-net blank, a casting or an extrusion changes that arithmetic more than any scrap improvement can, because it changes what you are buying rather than how much of it survives.

Duty is charged on cost of goods before freight, so a buyer on a different incoterm is on a different number.
